SHELTON — Debbie Brown, MA-C, enjoys being a Certified Medical Assistant in the town where she grew up. She loves interacting with her co-workers and feeling like part of the community. Her positive attitude and friendly nature are major reasons why Brown was named the September 2023 Employee of the Month by her peers.

Brown graduated from CHOICE High School in Shelton in 1997 and remembers initially wanting to become a veterinarian. She eventually studied medical assisting, graduating from Everest College in December 2012, after years of working in the community as a certified nursing assistant for elderly people and raising her family.

“I figured I’d bring home too many animals if I actually became a veterinarian,” she said. “When I went back to school, I was trying to get a change from the CNA world. I just like helping people.”

Brown joined Mason Health in May 2013, after completing an internship here. She started working at Shelton Family Medicine as a medical assistant, then transitioned to working in the Walk-In Clinic when it first opened in 2015. She has worked in the Walk-In Clinic ever since.

“I just like not knowing what’s going to come in, so that way it’s a variety of everything,” Brown said. “It’s fun working in the area I grew up. I like the people I work with. We’re a team.”

Brown enjoys watching her five grandchildren, embroidering, painting and doing crafts.
